Nutraceutical Executive Compensation Guide 2025: What VP-Level Talent Expects

Why Nutraceutical Compensation Is Rising

The global nutraceutical market is projected to exceed $700 billion by 2028. That growth — driven by DTC e-commerce, functional food innovation, and an aging global consumer base — has intensified competition for experienced executives. Companies that built their brands in the 2010s are now scaling into retail, international markets, and M&A, and they need seasoned leadership to do it.

The supply of executives with genuine supplement industry experience (FDA compliance, retailer relationships, clinical development, and channel management) remains limited. The result is a seller's market for talent at the VP level and above.

VP-Level Compensation Benchmarks (U.S., 2025)

  • VP of Sales: $165,000–$230,000 base + 20–35% bonus + equity

  • VP of Marketing: $155,000–$215,000 base + 15–30% bonus + equity

  • VP of Supply Chain: $145,000–$200,000 base + 15–25% bonus

  • VP of Regulatory Affairs: $140,000–$195,000 base + 15–20% bonus

  • VP of R&D / Innovation: $150,000–$210,000 base + 15–25% bonus + equity

  • VP of Operations: $135,000–$185,000 base + 15–25% bonus

  • VP of E-Commerce: $145,000–$200,000 base + 20–35% bonus + equity

C-Suite Benchmarks (U.S., 2025)

  • Chief Executive Officer: $250,000–$450,000+ base + significant equity

  • Chief Marketing Officer: $220,000–$350,000 base + equity

  • Chief Revenue Officer: $230,000–$380,000 base + equity

  • Chief Operating Officer: $200,000–$320,000 base + equity

What Drives Variation

Company stage is the biggest driver. PE-backed mid-market brands pay 10–20% above public companies in base but offer meaningful carry. VC-backed startups pay below market in base but offer significant equity upside. Larger CPG companies (Nestlé Health Science, Reckitt, Church & Dwight) pay competitively in base with strong benefits but limited equity.

Channel also matters: DTC-first brands pay a premium for digital marketing and e-commerce executives. Brick-and-mortar focused brands pay more for retail sales executives with key account experience at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, Walmart, and Costco.
